Thermal Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE)

Sensitive infrared cameras can be used to monitor energy flow processes in a wide range of components and materials, often with minimal or no surface preparation. The example below is of an anodised aluminium rod bending process, where the rod is work-hardened during bending and as a result experiences a peak temperature rise at the bend centre of approximately 0.7 K. No surface preparation was required for this test: the anodised finish of the component was ideal for infrared imaging without modification.
